National Stamp Company Romfilatelia is putting in circulation on Tuesday a postage set dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the elevation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the rank of Patriarchate.
Titled ‘The Centennial Year of the Romanian Patriarchate’, the set includes a postage stamp, a perforated souvenir sheet, a first day cover, and a special philatelic folder with a limited edition product, the Romfilatelia Public Relations Office announced on Monday.
The postage stamp with a face value of RON 25 depicts the portrait of Metropolitan-Primate Nifon Rusaila, who has been at the helm of the Romanian Orthodox Church between 1865 and 1875, in a period of intense efforts of the Church to obtain autocephaly.
The souvenir sheet features in the image of the postage stamp (face value of RON 25 lei) the portrait of the first Patriarch of Romania, Miron Cristea (who served between 1925 – 1939). The symbols of the Centennial Year, the facade of the Patriarchal Cathedral with a sequence of six medallion portraits of all the Romanian Patriarchs from 1925 to the present underneath complete the graphics of the philatelic product.
The first day cover shows, next to the image of the Icon of the Commemorative Year, the seal symbol of the Centennial Year of the Romanian Patriarchate and a partial view of the facade of the Patriarchal Cathedral.
The issue is available, starting Tuesday, in the Romfilatelia store network in Bucharest, Bacau, Brasov, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Timisoara, as well as in the online store at: https://romfilatelia.ro/store/.
2025 marks two special moments in the life of the Romanian Orthodox Church: 100 years since its elevation to the rank of Patriarchate (February 4, 1925), and 140 years since the recognition of its autocephaly (April 25, 1885). The events of the centennial anniversary program include the proclamation of the canonization of 16 new contemporary Romanian saints and the grand consecration of the National Cathedral.
