The interim President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, highlighted, in Strasbourg, at the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, that Romania is ready to support democracy in Europe.
„Romania is ready to stand with all of you to support democracy in Europe. To succeed, we must act decisively and, above all, remain united. Unity, cooperation and our commitment to democratic values make our countries stronger, more stable and more influential on the global stage. I call on all our partners to join forces to strengthen European cooperation in the fields of media education, cybersecurity and combating disinformation, creating a common front against those who try to weaken our democratic foundations,” said Abrudean.
According to a post on the Senate’s Facebook account, Mircea Abrudean stressed the importance of defending European democracy in a context marked by complex challenges, such as disinformation and foreign interference in electoral processes.
„Romania is firmly committed to promoting democratic values and the rule of law, as essential pillars of our security, economic growth and competitiveness. United, through cooperation and respect for democratic principles, we can build a more stable and stronger future for Europe,” added Abrudean.
Mircea Abrudean stressed the measures adopted by Romania to combat disinformation, hate speech and extremism, mentioning legislative strategies and initiatives dedicated to civic education.
